ASSERT sponsors TEDxUniversityCollegeCork
ASSERT is delighted to be a sponsor of the upcoming TEDxUniversityCollegeCork, which is taking place in the Aula Maxima, UCC, on the 16th of March 2019. This event is organized by Derry O’Flynn, Kate Ryan and Tessa Daly, third year medical students at UCC and committee members of the Association Of Medical Students of Ireland. Dr Pat Henn, Director of Research and Education at ASSERT, himself a veteran organiser of 4 TEDxUCC events in the past has acted as a mentor to TEDxUniversityCollegeCork.
With a theme of ‘Prisms of Possibilities’, this TEDxUniversityCollegeCork event will share diverse voices, ideas and to look for possible solutions to the biggest issues facing Ireland and the world today. Speakers include:
• Adam Finn a campaigner for mental health in Ireland
• Ciara-Beth Griffin a first year UCC student with high functioning autism, studying psychology and computing
• Dr David Clarke a funded investigator in the APC Microbiome Ireland located in UCC
• Dr Mary Favier is a Cork based GP and founding member of Doctors for Choice
• Jack Hickey is a talented artist whose piece “My Time” is the Hennessy Portrait Prize Winner 2017
• Professor Barry O’Sullivan is an award-winning academic working in the fields of artificial intelligence
• Valerie Mulcahy winner of ten All-Ireland titles and Activist for Marriage Equality
• Vella Nqobizitha a refugee speaking about life in a Direct Provision Centre.
