First ROSA Knee Course in Ireland

On 19th March 2021 ASSERT Centre, UCC were delighted to facilitate Zimmer Biomet who successfully completed a ROSA Knee training course in our Surgical Skills Lab. The ROSA® Knee System is an innovative robotic assistance system which supports Orthopaedic Surgeons in performing joint replacement surgery with features including surgical planning, assessment of real time intraoperative data and the support of a wide range of surgical philosophies.

Adam Cutler, Associate Director Medical Education, Zimmer Biomet Institute EMEA

“Surgical training using fresh frozen cadaveric specimens is the pinnacle of medical education and gives the best educational experience for the surgeons. The Consultant Surgeons who attended on the day are from hospitals in Ireland and, following the training session, have started using the ROSA Knee system in their clinical practice. It was essential that the Consultants completed the training before using the system in a clinical environment to ensure the safe and effective operation of the ROSA system when performing TKA (Total Knee Arthroplasty) procedures on patients.

The facilities at the ASSERT Centre are on par with the top surgical training centres we have used in  the EMEA region for BioSkills courses,  and  we look forward to running future events to support further training.

We were extremely grateful to UCC, The College of Medicine and Health in conjunction with the ASSERT Centre, for granting permission to facilitate this time-critical and important event during the current pandemic situation.  All COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions were strictly adhered to, enabling a protected and safe environment for UCC and Zimmer Biomet staff and Consultant Surgeons. “
